Soot? Creosote? Cobwebs? Birds nests?
There are a lot of ways in which your chimney or stove flue can become blocked. And if it IS blocked, all those dangerous combustion gasses aren’t leaving your property as easily as they should be. That can mean very real and harmful consequences, including a chimney fire.
Keeping it clean means keeping it safe. And that’s what I do at Simon the Sweep. I’m based in Stockton-on-Tees and work with homeowners and business owners across the North East. Get in touch to enquire.
Chimney sweeping
I use the latest modern techniques to keep chimney and stove flues clear. Not only are these techniques clean, they’re also 100% dust free.
I can clear any blockage, including any birds nests that may have sprung up. And once it’s all cleared out, you’ll not only have a safe flue – you’ll also have a more efficient ventilation system.
What does that mean?
It means no exhaust gases are being forced back into your home, upending the performance of your appliance. It also means that airflow is optimised, meaning an efficient fuel burn, maximised heat output and minimised waste.

All chimneys are smoke tested once swept.

Prices start from £60.

But what if a naked eye inspection doesn’t reveal a blockage?
That’s where a camera survey comes in.
If I can’t immediately see the problem, I can instead pass a rod through the flue with a small camera attached. It’s a tough little thing with powerful LED lights, meaning even the most subtle blockages can be picked up. I can also get a gauge on your flue’s liner and its condition.
Once I’ve reviewed the footage, I can isolate the problem and provide the fix.
Stay protected against carbon monoxide
If a fuel isn’t completely burned, then there’s every risk that carbon monoxide is being produced. Carbon monoxide – or CO as it’s known in chemistry – has no colour, smell or taste. And yet it’s absolutely lethal.
Once it enters the body, it prevents blood from bringing oxygen to the rest of the body. That includes your cells, tissues, organs and even your brain. It's why it kills 50 people every year. And poor flue maintenance is one of the biggest factors.
Keeping your fireplace or stove clean means you’re keeping it safe. But you can go that bit further and install a carbon monoxide monitor so that you’re always alerted should the worst happen. And I can both source and supply that monitor for you.

“Great service from Simon today. Two wood burner flues cleaned. And completely cleared a chimney that hadn't been used for 30 years! The camera survey was very interesting and showed what can get stuck in your chimney: 11 jackdaw skeletons, many twigs and lumps of tar. Very good service, no mess. Will definitely be using again."
